According to World Health Organization figures, 2.3 billion people around the globe lack access to proper sanitation. It is estimated that a quarter of these people live in India.
Research suggests 23 per cent of girls drop out of school on reaching puberty, but access to safe & hygienic toilets can increase their attendance by 11 per cent. Not only is access to clean & safe toilets essential for a better life; it also has a direct correlation to children's attendance and engagement in school.
With sanitation inherently linked to our business, Kimberly-Clark is committed to driving social impact by providing communities with access to sanitation. Launched in April 2016, the Toilets Change Lives (TCL) India social programme aims to deliver sustained impact by taking the unique and more challenging route of maintaining toilets, instead of building new ones.
The program was the winner in the Corporate Citizenship category at the annual Gold Standard Awards. The award celebrates excellence in the development of a CSR, sustainability or good governance project which enhances corporate reputation and demonstrates innovation in programme development and successful implementation.
